Fuengirola

In its earliest incarnation Fuengirola was known as Suel, and the town has its origins in Phoenician, Roman and Arab civilisations.  Today it is a well-developed modern urban municipality with numerous high-rise blocks of apartments, mainly near the seafront.

Fuengirola has more than eight kilometres of broad beaches along a promenade extending east and west from the town.  With a population of 80,000, it offers all the facilities to be expected of a major tourist centre: hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, discothèques, sports clubs and a yacht harbour.

Considerable commercial development has taken place in recent years, including construction of Parque Miramar, one of the largest shopping and leisure centres on the Costa del Sol.
